Narcotics worth Rs 14 crore seized in Pune district

Pune: Pune City Police Commissionerate, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, Pune Rural Police and Pune Lohmarg Superintendent of Police have seized narcotics worth Rs. 504 accused have been arrested.

According to the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, a District Level Anti-Narcotics Central Committee has been established under the chairmanship of the Collector to curb the use of narcotic drugs and effectively deal with the problem of narcotic drugs.

The committee consists of Superintendent of Police Pune Rural, Deputy Conservator of Forests, District Health Officer Education Officer (Secondary), Assistant Commissioner Social Welfare, District Superintendent Agriculture Officer, six. Commissioner of Central Goods and Services Tax Department, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Joint Commissioner of Food and Drug Administration Department, Superintendent of Central Narcotics Control Bureau, Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad City Prevention Cell Officers are total 13 members. A meeting of the committee is held every month under the chairmanship of the Collector.

The committee is working with a view to take effective action against the increasing use of narcotic drugs in the district as well as dealing with the problem of narcotic drugs easily. A lot of action is taken with the help of police department regarding illegal smuggling, cultivation, use, sale and consumption of narcotics.

In order to prevent the illegal cultivation of narcotic plants in the forest department as well as in the agricultural area, forest department, agriculture department, revenue department are taking joint action to create public awareness that farmers should not cultivate narcotic plants under prohibition. Public awareness has been started in schools and colleges through School Education Department, District Surgeon about the health effects and financial loss due to consumption of drugs and coordinators have been appointed in schools and colleges.

Marathons, street plays, rallies, lectures in schools and colleges, camps were organized in the district on the occasion of World Anti-Drug Day. De-addiction centers and rehabilitation centers are being inspected periodically on behalf of the Social Welfare Department and they are being assisted with the problems they face. The Food and Drug Administration Department is inspecting drug manufacturing companies.
