The Bihar Legislative Council passed an amendment bill to increase the reservation quota from 50 percent to 65 percent

The Bihar Legislative Council yesterday unanimously passed an amendment bill to increase the reservation quota in state government jobs for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Most Backward Castes and Other Backward Castes from 50 percent to 65 percent. The opposition BJP also supported the amendment bill.

The Bill will now be sent to the Governor for his assent. After their approval, the bill will become a law. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, who presented the bill in the House, said that because of this, Backward Castes will get 18 percent reservation in state government jobs.

The total limit for reservation will now be 75 percent and 25 percent for open category. The State Legislative Council yesterday also unanimously approved the amendment bill to increase the reservation for admission of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBCs and Other Backward Castes to 65 percent in government educational institutions.
